David Dayler - 12/04/00 04:21:01 My Email:thedayler3@sympatico.ca | Comments: Hello everyone...what a great site. Today is December 4,2000 and I am considering mounting a production of Children of Eden as part of World Youth Week to be celebrated in Toronto Canada in July of 2002. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has pr duced the show re: strengths and weaknesses and would love to know if anyone is producing it at this time. This production would be staged in a 2000 seat professional theatre. The company would be a young, non professional student company. I look forwar to hearing from anyone who is willing to share thoughts and ideas. Keep up the good work! |

Carson King - 11/28/00 20:20:34 My Email:corran33@yahoo.com | Comments: Hey! I was in Children of Eden when it was done in California at the Landis Auditorioum, in Riverside, in the fall of 1995. And just two weeks ago I saw it done at the Carpenter Theatre in Long Beach. LaQuin (Father) played Father in the one I was in and the one I saw. It was thrilling to see him and talk to him after the show. .... If I may ask: Who is this who is putting together this website? The logo you used (as far as I know) has only been used for the production I was in.....But I've never seen that snake around the world before........ Were you in the cast I was in??? Please respond at corran33@yahoo.com . |

susan mcpeters - 11/13/00 15:53:09 My Email:mcpeterss@bhc1.bhc.edu | Comments: Would you like you Tree of Knowledge to get massive audience applause? Ours did! We have just completed a successful run of Children of Eden and am seeking possible interest in the purchase or rental of the tree, which splits in two and belches massive am unts of smoke thanks to remote control and flashpots. It took weeks to build, is about 9 feet high and ten feet across. It comes in 2 parts with directions on how to assemble it and ignite special effects. You would be responsible for pickup/return but if your theatre is near Davenport Iowa its worth the drive.Contact Zach Pethoud, Producer, Ghostlight Theatre at zpethoud@hotmail.com |

I've had the honor of working on both shows at North Shore Music Theatre where I run the light board. I have completely fallen in love with this show and I can't wait for our community to see it!!!!!!! I am very proud to have been a part of the wonderful play. it was very powerful and moving. i will never forget that part of my life. i can honestly say that at the last ote of "in the beginning" every single show, i had tears in my eyes. and on closing night, i was wishing that it wasn't. thanx! |

ashley hargreaves-smith - 09/29/00 09:45:26 My Email:ashleyhsmith@yahoo.com | Comments: the london production was stunning.I was privileged to have seen a show which can only be described as spectacular. It was both inspiring and moving whilest maintaining a sense of hope.I had a copy of the original london cast recording on c.d. but had it s olen.I have spent numerous years trying desperately to replace it but with no luck.If anybody could help please please let me know.I have to confess that this show is my favourite musical of all time. The Broadway re-write was stunning but the London cast ecording maintains a special place in my heart. The combination of spectacle and talent that i witnessed will stay with me always.Stephen Schwartz is a master ranking, in my opinion, alongside Stephen Sondheim. As i singer i find both a pleasure to perform. ay more people throughout the world have the opportunity to witness the magic of Children Of Eden. |

John Adair - 09/11/00 21:37:00 My Email:jadair@unomaha.edu | Comments: Thank you for the interesting photos on CoE. I have seen it three times in the Omaha area and costumes have ranged from the styles of the London production to a 60s revival. The current production from Sept. 14 to Oct. 1 (Thurs-Sun.)at the Bellevue Litt e Theater (Nebraska)uses robes and flowing costumes. The director of this show has done it twice in our area and the choreographer three times. I would guess it is unusual for a city this size to have staged it so many times in the past four years. |

Deborah Garrand - 04/28/00 17:15:14 My Email:dgarrand@primelink1.net | Comments: Hello, In March 2000,I attended the Children of Eden production, presented by the Chazy Music Theatre in Chazy, NY. My younger sister, Tracy DeCoste was cast as Eve/ Mamma Noah. It was her first major role in a musical. The show was fabulous from beginning to end. The songs and music say so much. When people left the production they wanted to go again. The whole cast did a marvelous job with this musical--it was a night of entertainment I will remember for a while. The Chazy Music Theatre has been asked to do an encore presentation--but I guess it is a no go--very disappointing--I would love to have seen it again. For a small town group--they certainly put on a big performance. Deb Garrand |

Jen - 04/24/00 05:20:19 | Comments: I was in Children of Eden in late March of this year, as an adult storyteller. I had concidered quiting, because I had my heart set on being a dancer, but I am very happy that I didn't. "In the beginning" things were alittle shakey. Everyone thought that t would be impossible to memorize all of those songs, but we all worked VERY hard, and it all came together nicely. I would like to say thanks you to Frank Langr (the director of our play) and everyone else that helped make our production of Children of E en "Perfect!" |

I am the managing artistic director for First Presbyterian Theater 300 W. Wayne Street Fort Wayne, IN 46802 219-422-6329 Phone and Fax Is their an alternate copy of the script than the one I got from MTI? I see a different list of songs from the Papermill version versus the Original London. Is one shorter than the other--because the libretto I'm working from has a first act that does s em a bit long. |

Our school doesn't just have some rinky dink people standing around on stage either, our music program has received honors all over the US. I am very interested in Broadway. I have seen uch musicals as Crazy For You, 42nd Street, Joseph, Godspell, Charlie Brown, Hello Dolly, Grease, and my personal favorite FOOTLOOSE! I have tickets to see Les Mis in March and will be seeing 2 more undecided shows in NYC in the spring. Anyway, e-mail m , I think we have much in common! and Keep up the great work!=) |

Wausau Community Theatre of Wausau WI produced COE last March (99) at the Grand Theater. Six performances-six standing ovations! It was awesome. Best show I've ever been in (and I've been in over 15 musicals). A very emotional, yet satisfying experience. Everyone in the cast could personalize some part of the story-and that I'm sure made for a better show! |

Bill Larkin - 12/29/99 13:28:35 My Email:wclarkin@crocker.com | Comments: What a great show! I played the drum book for the production of CoE at Theatre at the Mount, Gardner,MA. I have played many, many shows, but this one stands out as a high point. The cast was fantastic, from the youngest child to the most experienced adul performers. The pit was fun to work with as well. Thank you Stephen Schwartz for writing such a wonderful score. I have never needed as much equipment in the pit to play a show before. The other percussionist (Mark Branco) and I were both surrounded with percussion instruments. If you are a drummer prepairing to play this show, work on your anklung technique! I hope to be able to perform this show again somewhere, anywhere, soon! |

The feelings I left with when the show was over were overcomming. It was a wonderful experience to work with the cast, and to be able to perform in such a brilliant show as Co . The cooperation and desire for this wonderful group of people, to put on a such a performance were great. I hope that others who will be performing this moving musical will have just as lucky an experience. |

Miss C.Loyola - 12/17/99 21:15:19 | Comments: I've just seen COE, by "Stage by Stage" a group of young, talented performers. The Singing was great - especially from Gareth Evans (Father and Vicki Parks (Mama).Keep up the good work! |

Joel LeBlanc - 12/16/99 18:33:36 My Email:theaterfreak41@hotmail.com | Comments: I am another person from the production of COE in Gardner MA and I would like to just restate what has been said by all the other cast members on this page. Children of Eden was by far my best theatrical experience! I played one of the storytellers and as fortunate enough to have a small solo in the Wasteland number. It's strange, while we were in production of this show I never got nervous to perform. That was not becuase I wasn't excited about the show, but is was becuase I just knew that there was o way the audience was not going to love the show. It is the most amazing show with its beautiful music and moving storyline. There was not a performance where I was not touched emotionally by each of the musical numbers in the show. Not only that but ur cast was so close that during the finale of the final performance, which is normally a very positive uplifting number, we were all hugging and crying off stage because we knew that the show was done after this song was over. Once it actually ended the e were even more tears and more hugs then I have ever seen in one place. If you are thinking of doing this show, or have the opportunity to go see it, do it!! It will be one of the best experiences of your life. Thanks |

Anthony M. Kirouac - 12/15/99 04:50:17 My Email:kirouaca@ummhc.org | Comments: In the beginning...I just finished performing in COE at Theatre at the Mount in Gardner, MA. I am left almost without words discribing my feelings of being able to be a part of such a wonderful cast and crew of such an AWESOME production. Playing one of he Storytellers and having the opportunity to sing the 'Death of Abel' has got to be one of the best experiences of my life. I can't say enough about this show, or the people I had the opportunity to work with on it. I want people to know how moving and emotional this show can be, on our closing performance Dec. 12, 1999, during the end of Act I, 'Children of Eden', our cast of 60 was almost entirely brought to tears as Eve(Fatima Elmi) completed her rendition of the number and ascended to heaven where s e would meet Father(Tim Recko), Adam(Rob Houle) and Abel(Chris Casello). It was absolutely amazing. I hope to be able to see a production of this show in the near future. It is so brilliantly written, and should be performed whenever possible. I would ike to send out my heart felt emotions to the cast and crew of this particular production, and thank them all for a job EXTREMELY well done! If you got to see the show, I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did performing it, and if you didn't get to see it I hope that you will be able to see another production soon. Thank you for this web page! |

The show is just so beauti ul and audiences feel so good after leaving. I have recieved nothing but glowing reviews from anyone that has come to see it...and personally, it gave me a very positive attitude. The show brought the cast of 60 so close together and we all created a fa ily within the cast. I enjoyed being in the show and was sad to see it go. I heard about your web page and I thought I'd add my 2 cents ; ) bye! |

Actually, I saw it FOUR times (my Dad was in the pit) and was sad to see it end last night. (It was definatley one I wish I'd tried out for.) When the cast surrounded the audience during the last song, it was nothing short of amazing (Even better than surround sound!). This is my new favorite musical, so if anyone hears of any productions coming up, or saw it and thought the same as I did, please let me know. |

mikey - 12/13/99 00:53:41 My Email:mwright@top.monad.net | Comments: Just saw a WONDERFUL production of CHILDREN OF EDEN in Gardner Mass. It was the best production I have seen of the show since the Papermill cast was at the North Shore Music Theater! Very simply (yet beautifully) staged and the voices were wonderful, wit a KICK ASS pit orchestra! At the finale, when the small family opened up their circle and joined the entire cast as they sourrounded the audience in one giant cirle, it was absolutley goosebump inducing!! What a terrific show!! |

Were you in the S.O.S. (Save Our Snark) campaign? Me and my Mum were, but it didn't do much good. I believe that this sho was just put on at the wrong time. The nation wasn't ready for it. Maybe they'll ressurect it one day and it will make a killing. But it won't be as good as the original. That really was something else! |

I had 14 or so young ladies working on the show with me. I would guess you've heard from some of our girls. We had about 65 students involved in the show and probably 100 more as student ads, stage managers, set construction, lights, sound, special effects and costuming. WE had a marvelous time with this show--some say it was our best production. We are fortunate to have a very talented director. you will probably hear from him. smwatson |

I would know since I am paritcipating in it right now. I am a child storyteller and it is a wonderful experience for me. I am in the same show as Brooke (the p rson who last signed this book) and I know we both are enjoying it very much. If you have never seen this show or even if you have, come see it. You will truly love it. I know I do. I have seen this play many times from sitting in the audience during rehe rsals to sitting on stage during a performance and I have not gotten bored yet. We have a wonderful cast and I would like to thank them all, and Kevin, for making this experience for me go so well. Congrats and good luck to all of you. |

MaDonna - 06/05/99 19:48:25 My URL:http://expage.com/page/madonnascorner My Email:madonna_flowers@hotmail.com | Comments: Wow! What can I say about "Children of Eden"? It's the best play . . . IN THE WORLD! I was so lucky to be in it! In my opinion, it was one of the best group of Actors and Actressess ever! Father (J. Hatlei) was magnificent, so was the wildnerness fam ly (Eve-E. Wallace, Adam-K. Kuch, Cain-J. Jennings, and Abel-C. Kind). As well as the Noah family (Noah-C. Kind, Mama-R. Taylor, Ham-T. Bell, Shem-K. Kuch, Japeth-J. Jennings, Aysha-C. Jagfeild, Ayphra-E. Wallace, and Yonah-J. Oliver). The snake was awes me, and so were the 30 adult storytellers. I was one of the 13 children storytellers, it was the best role in the 11 plays I've been in. PLEASE write me to talk about "Children". If you agree it's the best play in the world. I'm 13 years old. |

Bradley Hodges - 06/04/99 02:47:14 My Email:bsh719@aol.com | Comments: Well "Children Of Eden" is the best show i have ever had the privalge to see or be a part of. My high school, Cenrtal High School, put the production on a few months ago, and it was so far by most memorable high school experience. I had the honor of pla ing the part of Japheth and i had a blast doing that part. I cant describe the reaction that our school got after the show. I honestly do not think that there was a single person in the audience that was not touched in some way by the music and the stor of the show. i still get chills thinking about "Aint It Good", and other songs. I would like to thank Steven for writing the show because its been a wonderful opprutunity for many, and i hope to do the show again some day. Those of you who havent seen or been a part of tis extrordinary production, should because it will change your life forever! |

Glenn A Bolas - 06/02/99 13:03:45 My Email:gab_83@hotmail.com | Comments: Sarah, I didn't see any reference to it on your website so I can only assume that I have the honour of being the first to tell you. The Australasian premiere of Children of Eden took place on May 7 '99 & ran for 3 nights (May 7,8 & 14) plus a matinee, the procee s of which went to the aid of the victims of the current Kosovo crisis. It was done by St. Paul's Grammar School, a private highschool located in Penrith, west of Sydney and played to full houses. I played Ham and a Storyteller. In my opinion, our product on was truly worthy of the title of Australasian premiere (as a school we are renowned for high-quality, professional performances, but this one topped all of our past successes) and we recieved standing ovations on the last two nights. We definitely star ed something, too- I've heard a number of rumours (as yet unconfirmed) of productions in rehearsal at the moment in Sydney. Having said that, great webpage and a truly great musical! Regards. |

I was recently in a production of "Children of Eden" as a Young Storyteller, and my dad as Father, and I must say that it has become one of my favorite shows. Our cast of 51 people was very good, and everyone ho saw it enjoyed it, and everyone wh didn't shoud be kicking themselves for missing the area premire. I hope that everyone who reads this will see the show or hear the music, because it is a very good show (although the writer was a nut when he wrot the usic, in one of my dad's songs he made it in 4/4 time, except 1 measure, which was in 6/4 time, and then it went back to 4/4) I can't say enough good things about Children of Eden, and that is not just because I was in it. |

Larry - 11/17/98 23:15:57 My Email:LPry@aol.com | Comments: Before London....Before Papermill.....was the original production just outside of St. Louis, Mo. This was the the "tryout" for Stephen, with a script my Charles Lizanby. Many of the orginal songs are still in, some cut, some changed. The only scores av ilable are the hand written ones by Stephen, as well as home video and recordings. It was commissioned for a program called "Youth Sing Praise" at the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows, in Belleville, Illinois. (Bart Shatto for the papermill cast actually performed the role of Adam in one of the tryout performances!) ....just thought you'd like some background! ( I was the assistant music director!) |

Just a sidenote.... What a fun show! I have to say, though, after playing Adam/Noah, I'm a little bummed that "Good" is gone. I ended up having fun with it. |

Joan Illingworth - 03/30/98 08:52:46 My Email:j.johnson@mcmail.com.uk | Comments: I am a full time lecturer at a Further Education College in Oldham, Manchester, England. I am staging a production of Children of Eden at the end of June, 98 and have just read your very informative pages on the show. I have never seen the production but have managed to obtain a copy of the recording, which has some wonderful songs. I would b grateful if you could send any info and images of the production. I worked over 20 years ago with Martin Smith when he was 16 years old and knew he was destined to be a West End star. I was extremely saddened when I read of his death over two years ago. Hope to hear from you soon. Joan Illingworth |

I wish that the London recording would get reissued too. |

Ruth Muzik - 12/07/97 01:12:05 My Email:rmuzik@earthlink.net | Comments: I saw the production at the Paper Mill Playhouse and found it very moving. The simplicity of the sets and the costumes gave the music the spotlight that was well deserved. I am looking for the soundtrack, if you can help me, it would be appreciated. |
